Control and Automation Engineer, Pilot Plant
The Control and Automation Engineer will contribute to a fast-paced and growing team responsible for the design, development, testing and manufacture of Joule's SolarConverter® system, subsystems, electrical components and SolarConverter hardware and software system. The Control and Automation Engineer will be hands-on and support the engineering design teams on all aspects of the overall engineering development cycle from prototype builds to bench and process engineering testing.
This person will be responsible for setting up instrumentation and data acquisition systems as well as supporting and building test fixtures. He or she will perform tasks independently while working closely with individual team members to ensure that objectives are met. The role requires solid hands-on and technical skills, including electronic knowledge, ability to work with electronic measurement equipment (including but not limited to oscilloscopes, multimeters, etc), debugging and troubleshooting skills as well as wiring systems. The ideal candidate will develop new ideas, have the ability to learn quickly and is excited by technical challenges and aggressive timelines. This position is located in Leander, Texas with some travel opportunities.
Responsibilities
• Design and build data acquisition test systems
• Select, size, configure and program PLC systems
• Select the right sensors for different applications
• Tune, troubleshoot and configure control loops for different processes
• Generate test plans, data experiments and reports
• Ensure on-time delivery of an electrically/control-sound and error-free, safe test set up
• Participate in or run process, product or system level engineering experiments
• Read, interpret and understand drawings, P&ID, PFD, control loops, engineering documents and specifications
• Work with engineers and biologists, and contribute to the design and development of the company's products and systems
• Apply continuous improvement and lessons learned to improve future results
• Participate in design failure mode effects analysis and ensure product, process and system reliability and safety
Qualifications
The successful candidate will be a high energy, enthusiastic self-starter with interest and aptitude in energy conversion, fluid handling systems and biological processes, as well as instrumentation engineering. Strong experience (2 - 5 years) in PLC-based industrial systems and PID control tuning is a must. Experience in the development and set up of electric designs and systems, including electrical and electronic is desired. Experience with C/C++ programming and electronic design is a plus.
